Configuring Your Sign

Before powering on the Sign123 device, remove the SD card, insert it into an SD card reader and load it on a computer. Open the "bootfs" partition, and edit the file sign123.conf.txt using the following configuration options:

Set up Wireless network credentials

When you first set up your sign (or need to change WiFi settings later), you can configure the credentials using the sign123.conf.txt file on the micro SD card:

  1. Power off the Sign123 device.
  2. Remove the micro SD card from the device and insert it into a computer.
  3. Open the drive that appears and locate the file sign123.conf.txt.
  4. Open sign123.conf.txt in a plain‑text editor (for example, Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on macOS in plain‑text mode).
  5. Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) and passphrase in the fields provided in the file.
  6. Save the file, safely eject the SD card, and insert it back into the Sign123 device.
  7. Power the device on. If it's the first time starting the device, wait a few moments for some initialization tasks to complete. A restart may be required. Once completed, the Default Canvas page will be displayed.

Other startup options

Set a temporary CMS password

Use this option if you need to get into the CMS but do not know the current password.

  • Create a file in the root of the "bootfs" partition named reset-cms-password.txt.
  • Enter the temporary password in the file.
  • Save the file, eject the SD card, place it back in the Sign123 device, and power it on. On startup, the password for the admin and editor accounts in the CMS will be reset to the content of the reset-cms-password.txt file.

Restore Default Canvas Display

Use this option if the sign is running but you do not know its IP address—for example, if the network configuration changed and the address is no longer what you expect.

  • Create a file in the root of the "bootfs" partition named restore-default-canvas.txt.
  • Save the file, eject the SD card, place it back in the Sign123 device, and power it on. On startup, the sign will display the Default Canvas page, which will show you the network connection status, and the IP address if available.
